Is this the most deadly intersection in SF or what?

really!.....I am down there all the time. it is one block away from me. I wonder if it would change if that grocery/liquor store closed down? or what if anything that store being there has to do with it? there are always people standing in front of it. I don't know why it is a magnet for violence.

people need healthier options all the way around for their lives.

This area is in District 8 or 5? Which supervisor is responsible and do we have any reason to believe that they know what is going on?

I wrote a letter to Ross, Bevan, Chris Daly and Gavin Newsom and have heard back from everyone except Gavin. Everyone has some prop in the works to fix it...but I don't see any real action.

Was it a form letter reply or an actually letter?

          "Dear XXXXXX,

Thank you for bring this matter to our attention. You matter is important to us, please continue to write and someone will be with you shortly."

They were actual letter replies because in my email I told them that the last time I wrote I heard nothing and even Muni does a better job at replying -- at least we get so much as a form letter from Muni.

The one response Ross was especially long and detailed. There is a Lower Haight Community meeting on Wednesday night. Ross M also sent an reply to the Lower Haight Community group in reply to my letter and others that had been written to him recently. It sounds like he really is trying to do something.

If the one guy was shot several times, it certainly doesn't sound like a random act of violence. But - damn - it's really upsetting when this happens again and again in this neighborhood.

I heard the gunfire (it happened a couple doors down from our apartment) and there were about 9 shots fired. (Reload? There was a pause after 6 shots and then more shots were fired). The 16 year old girl who was shot in the leg lives next door to me and was less than 10 feet from her front door.
When we left to go watch the fireworks around an hour later, they were putting down the markers for evidence and I stopped counting the cones once I reached 20. The police were still there around 10pm, towing two trucks that had been hit with gunfire.

Shootings on this block are never random, they are always targeted and almost no one helps the police with details. After one shootings in front of our building a couple of years ago, the guy who was hit refused to tell us his name or if he knew who shot him as a friend and I were trying to slow the bleeding while we waited for the ambulance we called.

It really is a neverending cycle and I don't think closing that corner store would make a difference. When that store is closed, they hang out on the corner at the fish store across the street.

There were 2 gunmen. I saw them walk up the street, turn the corner and heard the shots. I would guess they both discharged their weapons which accounted for the shots...apparently they are bad shots as it took them 12 rounds to hit the guy.

They were both black males, in their mid to late 20s (guess) with red baseball hats, white t-shirts and baggy blue jeans. I noticed them as they crossed the street in front of me because I thought it was funny that they were dressed alike. They were crossing at Waller at the time I saw them and were about 1/2 block ahead. After the second round of shots, I hid behind stairs on Webster and Waller and saw them run back down the street and jump into a light blue mini-van that was waiting for them on Waller. Definitely targeted. I told the police what I saw, but they didn't seem too interested. Apathy or maybe they already knew who did it? Don't know if they caught the guys or if they are even looking.

I don't think closing the store would help, either... actually, the simplest thing the City could do to reduce gun violence and other crimes on that block would be to extend the brighter street lights on the western-side of Haight Street down another block east of Webster. Bright street lights are a deterent against crime and a boon to businesses, and generally make area residents and late-night visitors a bit safer.
