Anyone notice the radical remodel of Nickie's in recent weeks? It's a almost a totally different bar now.

Re: The New Nickie's
Sun, September 23, 2007 - 11:02 PMthey finished remodeling back at the beginning of the summer-ish... have they now re-converted? (please say yes, please say yes) the new nickie's is so uninteresting... and so not lower haight. not to mention, a dancefloor lost. -

there are plenty of nice, swank places in this town, and a dwindling number of ones with character.
like how Ah Bodhran was lost to an overly slick, out of place Danny Coyle's
just shows how our hood is being slowly and effectively invaded and remade for the likes of those who live north of us.
apartments bought up and votes thrown to the right (as far as right goes in sf)
we're being gentrified, someone told me a year ago.
it's ridiculous to think, but, it's true. -

Wed, September 26, 2007 - 2:56 PMThe LH is going all Hayes Valley soon enough. Only the projects will save/prevent it?
The new space reminds me almost exactly of Danny Coyle's but a tab bit more up scale. -

Re: The New Nickie's
Wed, September 26, 2007 - 8:31 PMThe old Nickie's was a great old dive. I'll refrain from bashing the new incarnation until I've been to a party on the inside, but gentrification (aka "economic cleansing") is the order of the day here in SF. In fact, it's been going on since the days of the dotcom.
This is definitely not the town it used to be, and if $11 cocktails and sky-high rents ain't your thing, well, you might want to start looking for some other urban nirvana.
And please let me know when you find it...
